A Christmas twist of some tried and true classics

This is an original collection of recipes. Original for two reasons: first because they are all based on slow cooking; and second because although most of the recipes are based on good old tried and true formulas, Jean Pardue adds a seasonal twist to each of them to transform the recipes into Christmas cheer. Well worth the purchase, and I shall certainly be trying a number of these myself during the festive season

Why?

right amount of ingredients - getting into double digits is too much for me

slow cooker - I loves me a slow cooker - a monkey could make a good meal with one - likely has - off to check YouTube - no, do that later

Big type - easy for an old coot like moi to read

Easy - I like easy - reminds me of my sister - just kiddin' sis

Look like recipes for stuff I have had and liked

What could be improved?

Pictures - Kindle is good for pictures - need them - no - just like them

Too generic at times. For example, one recipe mentions Velveeta. That is not generic. It is specific. And I LOVE Velveeta - think it should be the base of the nutrition pyramid. So that is good, but another recipe says put barbecue sauce in. What the heck is that? That is like saying put "wine" in or add some "soft drink."

But overall - a 4 I think is right - well played - and a last tip from the old goat - Stand facing the stove.

Short, Thought Provoking, and Inspiring

Paul has a way with words that makes him clear, understandable, and real. Paul's voice is very down to earth, humble, and unafraid of promoting other people's work that he truly believes in.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this book was the level of actionable, practical advice that he offers, down to the very tools and things that he uses to organize his thoughts.

I've always had trouble curating and focusing the content that I read and listen to on a daily basis, and I've lately been thinking about how to spend less time reading what other people have to say and thinking for myself. Paul's thoughts on curating my channels has definitely helped with that.

Additionally, the commonplace book is something that I have been thinking about for a while, and this book has helped inspire me to enhance and grow my organization of that notebook.

Paul is truly an amazing writer, and this short read is definitely worth the money!

About the Author
Author Nikisha Mock was born and raised in Thomasville, North Carolina and has had a passion for writing ever since the age of 8. Beginning with short stories and then poems, Nikisha says she knew from the start that writing was her first love. In high school Nikisha submitted poems to the school's weekly newsletter and was recognized in local writing contests for her poetry. Writing stories, however, has become the author's main focus. "There's something about being able to tell a story that readers can relate too that just excites me," says Nikisha. When asked what her motivation for writing her first book was, the author stated that her own life experiences with relationships was what prompted her to write the story although the book is purely a work of fiction. Her first published book, Love Me or Leave Me Alone, was released February 4, 2014. The publishing company True Visions Publications, one of many sub-companies of David Weaver, gave Nikisha the opening that she'd been waiting for. She gives credit to True Visions CEO's Nesha Mikell and Natissha Hayden for giving her the opportunity to show the world that she has something to say. Nikisha currently resides in Greensboro, NC. She is a student at the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. In her spare time, Nikisha enjoys listening to music, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Loved It!!!

This book was great! It was short and sweet. Eva and her girls are like so many women and are easy to relate to. I loved Tyler I think he and Eva would be perfect together. Hopefully everyone gets their happily ever after in the next installment. Great book I definitely recommend this one if you like urban literature and steamy sex scenes that aren't to raunchy!

From the minute I started reading this book, I was held captive by the lives of the 3 main characters. I couldn't stop reading until I completed the entire book, which is did in under 2 hours. The contents of this book may be fiction, but it seriously mirrors the reality that SO MANY women today experience.

From the minute that you're introduced to Eva, Ciara and Ayanna, you can't help but to feel that you are one of these characters, if not all. Because at some point, we have been each one of these ladies. The character development was great and it was easy to relate to either one of these ladies. Because the characters were so relatable, it was easy to picture yourself in their shoes, and may have you reliving some experiences that you have had that are similar to the book. That's what I enjoyed about the book. The fact that fact that every situation written could be experienced in reality.

I would definitly recommend this book to anyone that's looking for drama, suspense, deception and urban romance/love. You will NOT be disappointed. I'm impatiently waiting for part 2 to see how it all plays out. Great job on the Debut novel for Nikisha Mock. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Good Book

As a man, it is always fascinating and interesting to see what women do and how they respond to relationships and the issues surrounding them. I know what I would do and really think I know what the other men will do. So when I read about relationships from a woman's perspective, a lot of times it doesn't seem identifiable to me. This is not the case here. I was really into Eva, Ayanna and Ciara. I was able to feel their emotions and pain. There sense of importance in relationships came across. The characters were well developed and the story was told in an easy to understand non complicated way even though the lives of these women were complicated. True baby momma drama, love and betrayal, wrong decisions being made at the right time and right decisions being made at the wrong time kept me on my toes and wanting to turn to the next page. Sometimes hot and steamy, yet always dramatic, this book is a good entertaining read.

Good INtroduction or Review

I haven't used quark in years but recently took on a project that required it. Well written and organized, it provided a good refresher. The text is straight forward and the illustrations helpful. the print is small in some but still clear enough to read. This is not an advanced manual but it is ideal for beginners and those returning who need to review the basics. to that end it was most helpful and easy to use.

Powerful and practical guide for real users

Jay Nelson brings a rich historical perspective to QuarkXPress for Dummies, which adds valuable context to what can be a mysterious subject. More importantly, Nelson uses a practical approach to describing the tasks and operations that real users will actually want to employ. If you're frustrated by verbose manuals that want to walk you through a million different menu items but don't really explain how to productively use the software, you'll love Nelson's ability to lay out exactly what a professional needs to know (and why they need to know it). As you might expect from the former editor of Design Tools Monthly, the sections on preparing documents for print are clear and concise; what might surprise you is the additional information on other uses of XPress, from EPUB export to interactive HTML5 projects. The book ends with a list of important resources, some Do's and Don'ts, and a hidden beauty that alone is worth the price of purchase: a ten-page chart that shows which features have been added in which editions of XPress (something that can help you decide if you can keep running on that five-year old box of software, or would benefit from an upgrade). All in all, I can highly recommend this book for any QuarkXPress user, whether you're new or highly experienced!

Good book for the beginner

This is a pretty good book. Like any instructional book, you have to know what level of knowledge the book presupposes. In this case, the book assumes that the reader has a very modest understanding of QuarkXPress, which was good for me because I've never used the product. So it steps you relatively clearly from a simple understanding to more complex comprehension. Good. I will say that in general, I do not like the X for Dummies series approach to layout and formatting. Yes, these books are generally lower cost than competitor books, but you get what you pay for. They're just not nearly as visually appealing and engaging as other instructional brands. This is a difference that probably doesn't matter to most people, but as a person who adores good design, I'm willing to pay a premium for quality work.

Doug Richard is a UK based Californian serial entrepreneur and angel investor. Richard came to public prominence as a result of the BBC TV programme Dragons' Den, where he appeared as a 'dragon', or investor in the first two series. He subsequently became known for the Richard Report, the Entrepreneur's Manifesto and several other initiatives directed at improving UK support for startups and small businesses. He is regularly invited to appear on business initiatives and economic development pieces with some frequency on the BBC and financial news networks. Doug has received a host of honours and awards during his career and was the first American to receive The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion. Amongst others, he became a fellow of the RSA and received an Honorary Doctorate of the University of Essex for his contribution to entrepreneurship education. In 2008 Doug started School for Startups through which he has educated nearly 20,000 startups on the skills required to be successful. In 2010 Doug started School for Creative Startups with the sole remit of teaching creative people how to turn their creative hobbies into sustainable lifestyle businesses.

Marcus lets us hear strange yet familiar voices: of such heretics as the Brethren of the Free Spirit in medieval Europe and the Ranters in seventeenth-century England; the dadaists in Zurich in 1916 and Berlin in 1918, wearing death masks, chanting glossolalia; one Michel Mourre, who in 1950 took over Easter Mass at Notre-Dame to proclaim the death of God; the Lettrist International and the Situationist International, small groups of Paris―based artists and writers surrounding Guy Debord, who produced blank-screen films, prophetic graffiti, and perhaps the most provocative social criticism of the 1950s and ’60s; the rioting students and workers of May ’68, scrawling cryptic slogans on city walls and bringing France to a halt; the Sex Pistols in London, recording the savage “Anarchy in the U.K.” and “God Save the Queen.”

Embrace complexity Secrets from a more intelligent era

Without even commenting on the actual content, the style of this book is the complete opposite of our current oversimplified, dumbed down swill. The prose is dense and stream of consciousness styled, and necessarily complex. Greil Marcus drills down deeply, as far back as medieval times to synthesize an explanation of the Punk movement. He used documented but suppressed or forgotten historic events and movements to prove that Punk is not simply raw youthful rebellion, but part of a larger, self-validating philosophical paradigm. This coherency of this paradigm has evolved over the centuries, and it is never articulated in readily accessible form, but always lurking in the shadows. And it had repeatedly caused radical, worldwide change. Read this book if you dare, and if you can. Embrace complexity.
