About the Author
Grande Lum is clinical professor of law and director of the Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution at the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Lum is serving as director of the Small Business Administration HUBZone program for the Obama administration. He is also the founder and former managing director of Accordence, a negotiation consulting and training firm. Lum lives in the San Francisco Bay area.

Collaborative Negotiations

If you are alive you've probably negotiated for something. Whether you wanted some candy as a child or you put an offer on your dream house as an adult, you probably used skills you didn't even know you had. This book helps you see things from another person's perspective. It teaches you what effective negotiators say and do. It helps protect against stalemates and shows the importance of asking questions before counter offering. I found this book helpful to understand real-life situations. Anything is possible if you have the right strategy.

I not recommend its purchase

is quite basic and, except in the last chapters, adds nothing new to the usual theories of negotiation. The "OK thing" is that the author use some good examples of real life negociation.
If this is your first book you'll read about negotiation, forward! but if you want depth, the book is a waste of time

About the Author
WILLIAM C. HINDS, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the UCLA School of Public Health. His primary research interest is fundamental and applied research related to aerosols and industrial control of airborne contaminants, including respiratory protection. A Diplomate of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (comprehensive practice) and a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, he has published numerous articles on aerosols.

Great for certain audiences

Overall the content in this text is great, the wording is written so a novice will learn lots and even an experienced student will be a little confused. Great for aerosol reference. Love the chapter on respiratory deposition!

I had a tough time with the problems in this book, even though the instructor walked us through lots of the problems. Great for advanced level though expect problems if you are not familiar

Great text on aerosol basics

This is an excellent textbook for aerosol dynamics for anyone interested in learning about airborne particles. It is an extremely relevant book for students (undergraduate and graduate level) and researchers in the field. The book provides a lot of examples that utilizes new equations and all the problems have the final answers provided. In addition to providing fundamental aerosol basics, the author also discusses instruments that are used in the field to collect data on aerosols. Overall, this is an excellent text that covers all the fundamentals of aerosol technology.

In 1937, Ursula Bower visited Nagaland at the invitation of a friend, and on a dispensary tour encountered the Naga people. She was so taken was with their striking dignity, tribal pride, and unique culture that she arranged to live among them to write an anthropological study. But she became more than an observer—living alone among them, Ursula was integrated into their village life, becoming their figurehead when in 1944 the Japanese invaded the jungles of Nagaland from Burma. The Nagas turned to her for leadership and with the support of General Slim, her Naga guides were armed and trained to patrol and repel the Japanese incursions. The Nagas’ courage and loyalty were duly recognized, and after the conflict Ursula, with Naga support, went on to run a jungle training school for the RAF. Later, with her husband, Tim Betts, as Political Officer, she worked among the volatile tribes of the remote Apa Tani Valley, bordering Tibet. Following the Independence of India in 1947, Ursula returned to her highland roots, but to her death in 1988, her experiences among the Naga people shaped and directed her life.

When Minnie Powell, a resident of a Dublin tenement, makes this ironic statement to Donal Davoren, who is visiting his friend Seumas Shields, she is assuming that this poet-visitor is an IRA gunman, in hiding. It is 1920, and the Irish battle for independence has begun. Minnie, Seumas, and the other residents of the tenement all side with the rebels, and while Donal never says that he is with the IRA, neither does he work very hard to convince the residents otherwise.

Seumas, on the other hand, is actively involved with the rebels, using his work as a peddler of second-hand goods to make connections and carry information. Gunfire is constant at night, bombs go off, innocent citizens are killed, and the police raid neighborhood houses. During a disturbance that night, Minnie takes a bag of bombs, left under the bed by one of Seumas's friends, into her own room to protect Donal, to whom she is attracted, only to face the police in a raid.

The first of Sean O'Casey's "Dublin Trilogy" to be produced (followed by Juno and the Paycock in 1924 and The Plough and the Stars in 1926), this 1923 play is the work of a gifted but still inexperienced playwright. Walking the tight line between the absurd/satiric and the violent/tragic, the play has lovely dialogue but relatively little action onstage. Visitors come and go in Shields's tenement room, but most of the play consists of witty remarks, poetic commentary, and the dialogue of daily life--until gunfire breaks out in the street.

O'Casey establishes obvious contrasts between the poetry of Davoren and the grim reality of the "revolution," between the elegantly poetic statements of the always-sleepy Shields and the brutality of the police, between the love which Minnie offers and the political hatreds which dominate their lives, and between the men who engage in the chess game of rebellion and the women who often make the sacrifices. Though Davoren and Shields are interesting characters, the most dramatic events of the play take place offstage, as justice seems to get lost in the "excitement" of war. Mary Whipple

"What danger can there be in the shadow of a gunman?"

When Minnie Powell, a resident of a Dublin tenement, makes this ironic statement to Donal Davoren, who is visiting his friend Seumas Shields, she is assuming that this poet-visitor is an IRA gunman, in hiding. It is 1920, and the Irish battle for independence has begun. Minnie, Seumas, and the other residents of the tenement all side with the rebels, and while Donal never says that he is with the IRA, neither does he work very hard to convince the residents otherwise.

Seumas, on the other hand, is actively involved with the rebels, using his work as a peddler of second-hand goods to make connections and carry information. Gunfire is constant at night, bombs go off, innocent citizens are killed, and the police raid neighborhood houses. During a disturbance that night, Minnie takes a bag of bombs, left under the bed by one of Seumas's friends, into her own room to protect Donal, to whom she is attracted, only to face the police in a raid.

The first of Sean O'Casey's "Dublin Trilogy" to be produced (followed by Juno and the Paycock in 1924 and The Plough and the Stars in 1926), this 1923 play is the work of a gifted but still inexperienced playwright. Walking the tight line between the absurd/satiric and the violent/tragic, the play has lovely dialogue but relatively little action onstage. Visitors come and go in Shields's tenement room, but most of the play consists of witty remarks, poetic commentary, and the dialogue of daily life--until gunfire breaks out in the street.
